Junktique began over 20 years ago in Florence, Colorado, started by some of the town's earliest antique shop owners and vendors. What began as a small local gathering of vendors and treasure hunters gradually grew into a signature event for the community.
Over the years, Junktique was organized by both the Florence Merchants' Association and the Chamber of Commerce, evolving in size and popularity depending on the time and format. At times, it was part of larger celebrations like Pioneer Days, tucked into side streets and smaller spaces.
That all changed in 2018.
Junktique was reimagined and expanded, taking over three full blocks of Main Street in Florence's historic downtown. Vendors lined the center of the street, and the event quickly transformed into a true destination. The following year, it grew even further, expanding into side streets and drawing thousands of visitors from across the region.
Like many events, Junktique paused during COVID, but it returned strong to Main Street, continuing the tradition that so many people had come to love.
Today, Junktique on Main Street is held alongside the Florence Merchants' Car Show on the third weekend of May, creating an even bigger draw for visitors and a full weekend experience in the Antique Capital of America.
With the lack of a regular local flea market, and the growing difficulty of shutting down Main Street, which also serves as a highway, we decided to expand the Junktique tradition beyond downtown. In addition to continuing Junktique on Main Street, we launched Junktique Off-Main on private property just half a mile from the center of town.
Our first Junktique Off-Main event brought more than 600 people to the event and into the Florence area, with visitors coming from as far away as Arizona, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. The goal is to continue building Florence as a weekend destination, giving shoppers, vendors, downtown businesses, restaurants, and local attractions even more opportunities to benefit from the energy that Junktique brings to the community.
